Susan Ouyang

Piano

Born in China and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Susan began piano lessons at age 6. While studying there with Janice Elliott-Denike, she performed with the Regina Symphony Orchestra and was a winner at the 1994 Canadian Music Competition in Vancouver, BC. Her studies continued with a full scholarship at the University of British Columbia, where she completed both her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in piano performance under the guidance of Lee Kum-Sing. During this time, Susan performed before audiences at the Orpheum and Playhouse theatres, and won awards at the Pacific Piano Competition and the Friends of Chamber Music Competition. She has also performed in masterclasses for artists such as Menahem Pressler, Marc Durand, Andre Laplante, and Janina Fialkowska.

In her teaching career, Susan draws upon her competition experience and extensive performance training to guide her students to achieve their personal musical goals. Whether they want to win competitions, excel in exams, or simply enrich their lives with a greater understanding of and ability to play music, Susan draws upon 22 years of teaching experience and a lifelong passion for music to help make those goals a reality.

When she is not at the piano, Susan enjoys running, cooking and baking, hiking, and raising her twin boys.
