Sylvia Maltby

Before relocating to the Tri-Cities area to escape the snow, Sylvia Maltby was well-established as a private music instructor, accompanist, theatre musician and soloist in the Edmonton area. She received a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Arts in Musicology from the University of Alberta, a diploma in Vocal Pedagogy form the Western Board of Music, and studied jazz piano with Charles Austin at Grant McEwan University in Edmonton.

Currently Sylvia has the pleasure of teaching piano and all levels of theoretical subjects at the British Columbia Conservatory of Music and the Port Moody Arts Centre, and with colleague Rachel Anderson, has developed a summer music camp for kids. Sylvia also continues to teach a musical theatre summer camp which has been running for over ten years at Grant McEwan University.

During her career, Sylvia has worked for Northern Light Theatre, Theatre Three, Alberta Barter Theatre, Grant McEwan University, and several choral groups as an accompanist. She has served on the boards of the Edmonton branch of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers, the Kiwanis Music Festival, and the first Suzuki Method elementary school in Edmonton.
